The Perfect Excuse Not to Cook Dinner

Hi – I’m Brianne, former staff member of Heart of Georgian Bay and lover of all things local. I

was super excited to hear about the new Taste, Shop, Experience the Heart of Georgian Bay

program, so when I was asked to check out one of the dining experiences, I was immediately on

board!

I decided that it would be a great opportunity to treat my parents to dinner and they chose The Boathouse Eatery. I called to make a reservation and downloaded my voucher right to my

phone.

[Disclaimer – our server did ask that each person download a voucher, which we did at

the restaurant]

Before entering, we put on our masks and used the hand sanitizer provided outside. After being greeted with a friendly elbow bump from one of the owners, George, we were seated at a cozy booth by the window.

The restaurant underwent renovations last year, with fresh paint, newfixtures and new booths, and let me tell you – it looks fantastic!

As part of The Boathouse Eatery’s offer, we were able to select any entrée from the main menu and get a free soup of the day or house salad AND dessert! So if you are looking for an excuse not to make dinner, there really is no downside. With nine entrée options, we were each able to choose something to meet our taste buds.

Our server, Ebonee, quickly brought out three house salads and one bowl of potato bacon soup,

and I think my eyes said it all. I was envious of my boyfriend’s soup choice but luckily, he let me

try a spoonful. It didn’t look like your average potato soup – more of a chunky stew or chowder –

but man, did it taste good!

By the time we were done with our starters, our main courses were ready. I had chosen the fish

and chips, which never disappoints. The fish was crispy and well seasoned, and the fries were

the perfect combination of crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My meal came with

house-made tartar sauce and coleslaw.

My boyfriend decided on the Grilled Bone-In Pork Chop. And once again, I was envious. He

always makes the better choice! The 10oz chop was stuffed with rosemary, sautéed

mushrooms and goat cheese, and was served with a good serving of french fries and steamed

vegetables. He had carefully pre-selected his dinner earlier in the day, but wasn’t sure if he

should order an additional pork chop (because yes, you can do that!). He decided to stick with

just the one and was pleasantly over-full when we left the restaurant.

Mom chose the Shrimp & Chicken Stir Fry and it came out looking delicious! She was happy to

see that her bowl was full of colourful veggies, rice and flavourful chicken and shrimp, all topped

with bean sprouts for a good crunch. She even found a super long spiraled carrot, so that was a

fun surprise!

Dad is pretty traditional, so he opted for the Chicken Alfredo Pasta. A good sized portion of

creamy pasta, a full chicken breast and two pieces of garlic toast on the side. His only complaint

was that he wanted more.

But my favourite part was definitely the dessert… Ebonee came out with a tray with four

individual sized Pumpkin Crème Brulée, and O.M.G. it was fantastic! It was the perfect creamy,

pumpkin-y finish to our meal and would definitely recommend it.

Let’s take a closer look…

Things to Note

Looking at the entrée options, you will be pleasantly surprised to find two vegan-friendly options

and many gluten free options as well. And price points vary depending on the entrée that you

choose.

Why you Should Check it Out

Why not? The offer has great value, adding a free starter and dessert to a meal that we already

planned on eating! The location doesn’t get any better, and we were able to take our time to

chat and eat without feeling pressured to free the table for the next group. The food was great,

the drinks were cold and service was prompt. The Boathouse Eatery staff made us feel safe and

welcomed, as always.

The Boathouse Eatery is a true community player. George and Kirk are always ready to support

our community in so many ways, so it’s our turn to support them. All in all, there is no reason not

to check out Taste, Shop Experience the Heart of Georgian Bay at The Boathouse Eatery.
